Yandex to develop self-driving transport jointly with Moscow

MOSCOW, Jul 17 (PRIME) -- Internet giant Yandex and the Moscow city government have agreed to cooperate in the development of driverless transport, the company said on Tuesday in a statement.

“Work with the city authorities will make it possible to lay the legislative ground necessary for introduction of the driverless management technology on the Moscow roads of general use. It will facilitate testing of prototypes of unmanned cars, with drivers at the wheel, of course, in real environment,” Yandex said.

The Internet company started working at the technology in 2016 and its first self-driving car debuted on a Moscow road in February and drove 789 kilometers from the capital to the city of Kazan, on the Volga, in June.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in May that legal regulation of driverless transport will be provided within a year.
